Having a few problems filing your GST return this month? You’re not alone. Inland Revenue ‘helpfully’ released their new GST system this week and in the spirit of upgrades everywhere, it looks set to be a downgrade (well so far anyway)! To help out, they’ve released a 36-page guide. An odd thing to do, I would’ve thought, in an era when tech is so friendly it rarely comes with an instruction manual (does iPhone-for-dummies even exist?). Anyway, I’m not telling you anything you don’t know right, but the main issue you may be experiencing is not being authorised for GST in the IRD’s system meaning you can’t see a GST tab when you log in.
To fix this, the master account holder (who will normally be the company Director) needs to log into their myIR and give you access (video below).
However, if like so many businesses, your kindly Director has no recollection of the master details then I’m afraid he or she is going to have to get in that lovely long line and wait patiently for someone on the IRD phone lines to help you through the authorisation process. Good luck.
