Boutique Financial breakfasting on your numbers blogStarting the day by spending just a few moments focussing on your key numbers can really help make big improvements to your business.  Arm yourself with your sales so far, how much cash you have and how much you’re owed and owe. You’ll easily find all this, cleverly summarised on the front page, if you’re using xero accounting software.  Start with something as simple as checking if the money coming in will cover money going out. Then drill down into Accounts Receivable to see if anyone needs a bit of a hurry up to pay you and try emailing weekly statements to really rev up cashflow.

Check if your sales are on target and invoice regularly so that you don’t miss out on any hard earned sales.  Give your motivation a kick by drafting your invoices, in xero, at the start of every month. You’ll get a real satisfaction watching them move out of drafts and into finished sales.  Another plus is that you’ll be able to take immediate action if they show a poor month coming up.  Showing your sales, on your xero-watchlist, under each staff members name, can help create some healthy in-house competition too.

Taking stock of these key numbers regularly, you’ll be so much more informed, able to grab opportunities, and increase your chances of business success.
